On March 26, 2025 Wednesday at least 83 huts and other valuables were reduced to ashes when fire broke out in the huts of Bagri community near Agha Qadirdad Khan Date Market Sukkur on March 26 afternoon. According to the eyewitnesses the fire was so intense that, it engulfed the entire locality within no time and as a result all the huts along with valuables, goats, stocks of grain and other precious items like motorcycle loaders, motorbikes, cash, ornaments and others were gutted by the fire. The charred bodies of the burnt goats were lying on the garbage dump near the locality. The residents were only able to save their lives and the clothes they were wearing at that time.
Its small spontaneous settlements where 83 households living in houses made of dates tree bushes, bamboo sticks, iron guarder, and some plastic sheets as well. The fire was so sudden that it took to all 83 huts types houses in just few minutes and there was no way out. It was heart wrenching to see the burnt motorbikes, loaders, furniture, stocks of grain, onion and potatoes and even cook wares and other utensils, clothes and much more. The families tried their level best to save some of their belongings but could only save their lives.

Summary of the Loss & Damages
• All 83 houses were burnt to ashes
• Bedding material including wooden bed and mattress were completely vanished
• Cooking utensils and related material including plastic mugs and boxes
• Stored dry ration including wheat flour
• Vegetables and green fodders were also destroyed
• Motorbikes and motorbike loaders, which were used for the earning were also lost.
• Clothing storage of all family members have been ruined, so only which were dressed up by them
• Solar plates, pedestal fans and other related items were also completely burnt out.

All the families are forced to live under open sky, since summer season has already set it and March is recorded is 2 degrees warmer in the country. There are not enough bedding sets to sleep in the night.
There is no food to eat because no utensils and raw material to cook food, so they are relying on the cooked food by the close relatives lives nearby but they can’t continue to support them for the longer.

Since, there is no other stakeholder active on ground and only RDO is providing the much-needed support to the 83 affected families. Therefore, all 83 families will be reached and universal support will be provided to the beneficiaries. Through the response plan, Riverside Development Organization (RDO) has planned to restore the lives of the badly affected families and their houses were burnt and household’s items were destroyed.
